Madeira in Bloom: A Spectacle of Colors and Joy!
MADEIRA FLOWER FESTIVAL 2-26 MAY 2024
With the arrival of spring, Madeira's gardens become even more colorful and exuberant. This festival celebrates the vitality of Nature.
Spring has arrived in Madeira and with it the Flower Festival, a magical event that transforms the island into a true open-air botanical garden. From 2 to 26 May 2024, the streets of Funchal will be adorned with thousands of flowers, creating a vibrant and unforgettable atmosphere.
This year, the theme of the festival is “Madeira, the magic of flowers”, a tribute to the natural beauty of the island and its rich floral tradition. The Flower Parade, one of the highlights of the festival, will parade through the city streets on May 5th, with floats decorated with exotic and vibrant flowers, folk groups and music bands.
But the Flower Festival is much more than just the parade. Over 25 days, there will be a diverse program with shows, dance performances, workshops, exhibitions and tastings of local cuisine. The streets of Funchal will be enlivened by street artists, jugglers, acrobats and musicians, creating an infectious party atmosphere.
PROGRAM
- The central square of Avenida Arriaga will host the Flower Market, with several stalls, as well as numerous attractions and musical concerts in Praça do Povo, together with the Flower Pavilion. The Flower Market's opening hours are from 10am to 10pm on weekdays, and from 10am to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
- The highlight of this event is the allegorical procession that takes place on May 5th, on Avenida do Mar, with a total of 14 groups and 1,805 extras.
During this period, visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of attractions, including the stunning flower carpets along Arriaga Avenue, living statues that bring local culture to life, and an incredible array of kiosks selling flowers, traditional embroidery and delicious local delicacies.
- The Madeira Flower Classic Car Parade will take place on May 12th from 4:30pm to 5:30pm, departing from Avenida Francisco Sá Carneiro, Avenida do Mar, and Comunidades Madeirenses.
- The Madeira Flower Collection (Quinta Magnólia) on May 18th and 19th aims to promote the regional fashion sector and establish fashion designers by showcasing their “flowery” themed creations in the gardens of Quinta Magnólia.
And of course the festival wouldn't be complete without the glitz and glamour of the Madeira Classic Car Revival on the 24th and 26th, where hundreds of beautifully preserved cars, motorbikes and bicycles will be on display. In keeping with the theme of this year’s fashion show, an additional ‘Best Dress of the Season’ category has been added to the event.
